Many people are just getting Tesla’s 2019.36.2.4 software update today (like us). Just when you feel like you’re catching up to the latest version, which was until today 2019.40.1.1, the next version has already started rolling out.

Some Tesla owners have already seen 2019.40.2 being pushed to their vehicles. The release notes are similar to 2019.40.1.1, which included smart wipers and automatic lane change improvements, but has two noticeable improvements that make Tesla’s even safer than before.

Adjacent Lane Speeds

This new feature is for when your Tesla is in Autopilot mode. When travel in your adjacent lane is detected as moving significantly slower than your travelling speed, the vehicle will automatically lower your speed. When this happens, the visualization on the screen will alert you by filling the adjacent lane with arrows and highlighting the vehicles in that lane. You will still be able to override Autopilot in these situations by pressing the accelerator pedal.

Autosteer Stop Sign Warning

This new feature appears to be moving Tesla one step closer to feature complete full self-driving, which Tesla CEO Elon Musk said would likely happen before the end of the year. Now your vehicle will now be able to warn you if it detects that you are about to run a stop sign or red light. This will only happen when Autosteer is engaged. It is also important to note that this will only warn you, it won’t stop the vehicle for you, and you still need to pay attention to the road and your surroundings.

It appears these these two new features might only be available in the US, as Canadian owners are reporting their release notes don’t include Adjacent Lane Speeds or Autosteer Stop Sign Warnings. Do your 2019.40.2 release notes in Canada have it?
