Mini Cooper SE

The pricing of Mini’s new Mini Cooper SE electric vehicle was announced today, but only for the US market. While the Mini Cooper SE will be coming to Canada in the spring of 2020, there has been no official announcement of Canadian pricing, but we can make educated guesses.

Once available for sale, the Mini Cooper SE will have a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $29,900USD, plus a $850USD Destination & Handling fee, for a total price of $31,750USD. Based on today’s exchange rate, that would put the Canadian price in the low $40,000 range. If the $5,000 federal incentive is still available at launch, that would put the price of the Mini Cooper SE in the $35,000 to $38,000 range. Depending on the release date, provincial incentives could bring that price down even further.

Based on BMW’s i3 platform, Mini’s new EV pumps out 181 horsepower and 200 foot-pounds of torque. With the small and lightweight frame, it will be a quick little racer. It will carry a 32.6kWh battery pack, rated at between 235-270km based on WLTP testing. In Canada, range ratings are based on the EPA cycle, which should estimate the range at about 210km. It will also be equipped with DC fast charging and single pedal driving, where the driver can select the amount of regenerative braking.
