The adoption of electric vehicles (EV’s) across Canada was just made a little easier as the Government of Canada has announced plans to install 54 EV fast chargers across Canada.

The new chargers will be located at select Canadian Tier locations across central and western Canada. This is in addition to Electrify Canada’s plans to install over 20 EV chargers, and AddÉnergie $1.3 million investment to build 28 fast chargers at Canadian Tire stores.

Once complete, the Canadian Tire EV network will be one of the largest in the country. Canadian Tire has partnered with Flo to operate the chargers, which will include Tesla charging options, for a total of 240 fast chargers (Level 3) and 55 Level 2 chargers at over 90 different locations.

The funding of this investment comes from Natural Resources Canada’s Electric Vehicle and Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Deployment Initiative (EVAFIDI), which has set aside $182.5 million to develop a coast-to-coast fast charging network for EVs. The Government of British Columbia is also contributing $275,000 towards the program.

With Tesla’s recently completed coast-to-coast Supercharger network, Petro-Canada’s now completed Electric Highway network of chargers, and now Canadian Tire’s network, charging an EV in Canada has never been easier.
