One of three Petro-Canada EV fast-charging stations slated for Manitoba is now up and running, with the Brandon location unofficially opening on Wednesday.

The EV charger, located at 100 Highland Avenue just off the Trans-Canada Highway, will be a welcomed addition to the town, and will join more than 50 other locations making up Petro-Canada’s “Electric Highway”. The DC fast chargers (Level 3), will be able to charge your EV at rates of up to 200kWh. That’s enough energy to provide an 80 per cent charge to most EVs in less than 30 minutes.

As Petro-Canada’s network of fast-chargers has just begun construction, there is no cost to charging at their locations. No details have been provided yet about how much it will cost to charge once the free period ends, which is slated for “this fall”, according to their website.

As a Tesla owner, you will need a CHAdeMo adapter to charge your vehicle. If you don’t have one, Tesla will soon be opening a Supercharger in Brandon, located a few minutes further south at 921 18th St N.

Petro-Canada is building out their network very quickly, with new locations opening weekly. It is unclear at this time how quickly they update their listings though, as the Brandon location is still listed as “Planned”.
